IT’S COME TO THIS: Dre Greenlaw wonders if Antarctica is ‘a lie’ during 49ers’ Australia trip.
Many San Francisco 49ers plans are experiencing Australia for the first time this week.
Yet, 49ers star linebacker Dre Greenlaw seems to be more concerned with another continent. He made that known during a wild exchange Greenlaw had with reporters on Tuesday morning.
A reporter asked Greenlaw, “Do you have any questions you’d want to ask Australians?” per ESPN’s Nick Wagoner. San Francisco is in Australia ahead of their NFL regular season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.
“I mean, how far are we from Antarctica? That’s what I got. We’re right on top of it, huh? Does It snow probably pretty bad here? So Antarctica, is it a lie?” Greenlaw responded.
After being told the continent is indeed there, Greenlaw said, “Y’all been there before?”
Hey, back in 2023, NPR warned us that “Antarctica is melting and we all need to adapt, a trio of climate analyses show.” I blame Trump for how quickly it completely disappeared.

American manufacturing is on the rebound — and that good news could hardly come at a better time for President Donald Trump, as Republicans gird themselves for the midterm elections just two months from now.
Manufacturing isn’t the only sector that’s on a hiring spree; businesses across the board added 162,000 new jobs in August.
Even The New York Times called the latest employment numbers “zesty.”
The paper quoted T. Rowe Price’s chief US economist, Blerina Uruci: “It’s a very good report . . . And it perhaps shows that financial conditions more broadly are not that tight.”
The workforce participation rate rose as well — which matters, because people who drop out of the labor force are invisible in unemployment rates that only count those who are looking for work.
This economy is pulling Americans who’d given up hope off the sidelines and putting them to work.
That’s a success not only for Trump’s economic policy, but for his immigration crackdown, too.
…and it looks more and more like we’re through the worst of it.

TOO DUMB TO CHECK: CLANCY DEFENSE ATTORNEY BEGS FOR PARDON FROM … TRUMP?
Where did [Kevin] Reddington go to law school? Where did he go to high school, for that matter? Presidents can only issue pardons for federal crimes, not for state crimes. Clancy has been charged and will be tried again by the state of Massachusetts in state court, not by the Department of Justice in federal court. Trump has no jurisdiction over this case, which anyone who paid attention in high school civics class would already know. Reddington actually charges clients money for legal representation and apparently has no grasp on the concept of jurisdiction.
If Reddington wants a pardon, he’d have to apply for it with Governor Maura Healey, not with Trump. And while Healey won’t touch this case with a ten-foot pole either – she has better political instincts than to stop the prosecution of a woman who murdered her three children – Healey’s a lot more likely to have some sympathy for Clancy than Trump. It’s not clear why Reddington would think Trump prefers to see criminals go free, but Reddington may have paid as much attention to Trump as he did in civics class.
Reddington has had quite run with the Clancy case: Lindsay Clancy’s lawyer bashed America’s juries — and battered another pillar of justice.
MEMORY HOLED: A 9/11 Story Some Want Us to Forget.
“The Path to 9/11” aired exactly once, two decades ago. Then it vanished. ABC hasn’t shown it since. The network has refused to release it on a disc or as a download. No streaming service carries it.
It’s almost like someone doesn’t want you to watch it.
Millions of Americans saw the docudrama in 2006, on the fifth anniversary of 9/11. It played across two nights, without commercials. Its major inspiration was the final report of the 9/11 Commission, the bipartisan panel empowered by federal law to investigate the terrorist attacks.
“Few people actually read the report,” says Quinn Taylor, the former ABC executive who conceived of the show, in an interview. “Our goal was to put it in living rooms and make people think.”
ABC invested more than $40 million in the project. It signed up stars such as Harvey Keitel, Patricia Heaton, Amy Madigan, Donnie Wahlberg and others. There was talk of broadcasting “The Path to 9/11” annually, as a public service. The idea was to portray the national-security lapses that allowed Osama bin Laden to deliver death and destruction to America. The hope was to keep the country alert and vigilant.
“The Path to 9/11” is a gripping story of failure. I watched it 20 years ago and wrote about it favorably. I recently rewatched it, having saved promotional DVDs from back in the day. It holds up well as a dramatic chronicle of what went wrong.

THAT’S A REAL SHAME: Georgetown U. students miffed pre-orientation program no longer ‘identity-focused.’
According to The Hoya, the center’s Young Leaders in Education, Advocacy & Dialogue program, aka YLEAD, was changed last August to Total Hoya Readiness: Intro to Vocation and Experience, or THRIVE, which no longer has programming related to identity and diversity.
YLEAD used to “foster dialogue” about “ability, ethnicity, gender, nationality, race, religion, age, sexual orientation, and social class,” according to the Hoya’s review of the center’s archived webpages.
Solene DeGaynor, a former YLEAD participant who later became a THRIVE coordinator, said she was “disappointed” the university moved away from the original program.
“We did a lot of presentations on what it means to be a woman on campus, what it means to be a person of color in a predominantly white institution,” DeGaynor said. “That was really helpful in terms of understanding how identity intersects and plays a role in how you operate on a college campus.”
DeGaynor added that the new THRIVE is more about “academic success” and “access[ing] to all of the resources” at Georgetown.
Campus relations were so much better before schools started to “foster dialogue” about “ability, ethnicity, gender, nationality, race, religion, age, sexual orientation, and social class.”
