HEY, BIG SPENDER: Nvidia to invest $3 billion in Meta as tech giants deepen AI partnership. “Nvidia announced its investment on Tuesday, adding that Meta would expand Vera Rubin and Vera CPU deployment, and that the two companies would deepen their partnership on Muse, the social media giant’s AI agent that launched last month.”

Round and round it goes.

DEMOCRATS TAKING NOTES:

COLLEGE SPORTS – AT WHAT COST? The Martin Center is out with a report on what sports cost UNC system students, not just in fees, but in other, less fungible, ways.

I loved my time at Duke in part because of the fun of being a “Cameron Crazie.” But there’s a point where the big money and attention of college sports becomes a liability instead of an asset, and if we weren’t already there in the late 90s (and I suspect we were), we’re way past it today.

AMERICA’S TEAM’S NEWSPAPER OF RECORD:

WELL, YES:

But wait, there’s more:

Who said trillionaires aren’t any fun?

RELATED (From Ed): Actually, perhaps there’s less:

FEDS STEP IN: DOJ Charges Illegal Alien Who Smashed the Iwo Jima Statue at Quantico. “After a woke judge released the criminal illegal alien who smashed up a statue of the Iwo Jima World War II flag raising outside Quantico Marine Base, the Department of Justice stepped in to issue federal charges and ensure the alien doesn’t get off scot-free.”

BUCKLE UP:

Key bit:

The question then becomes, what is an “enemy” that must be “adhere[d]” to in order for it to be treason?

Like with most complex issues of law, there is not a 100% straightforward answer, but an 1863 SCOTUS case, U.S. v. Greathouse, suggests that an “enemy” in this context must be in an open state of armed conflict with the U.S. for a nation to be an “enemy.”

So, technically, the Color Revolution plotters are likely not legally committing “treason” unless they are coordinating with Iran, the only nation we are currently in armed conflict with. (And they may well be, who knows!)

Sedition, OTOH?

Sedition, almost certainly.

But as Steve Ferguson noted: “Fun Fact: There is no statute of limitations on treason.“

THE NEW SPACE RACE: Astroscale proposes fleet of ‘bodyguard’ spacecraft to protect satellites from orbital attacks. “Although Astroscale, headquartered in Japan but with significant presence in the U.K., is a leader in the commercial orbital rendezvous and proximity operations technology, no Western players currently match the deployed capabilities of Russia and China. Europe, in particular, is under-equipped for defense and military operations in space, according to the Secure World Foundation’s Global Counterspace Capabilities Report. With Russia’s accelerating orbital forays, the clock appears to be ticking.”

GOTCHA: DHS Slaps 60 Minutes With Receipts After They Cut Footage From Interview on Illegals.

After reviewing Diawara’s file, [James] Percival posted that the asylum application listed a different basis for the fear claim. Diawara wrote that he was gay, and said he would face persecution in Mali on that ground. He is married to a woman and has two children.

“This illegal alien is [60 Minutes’] poster child for what it claims are wrongful deportations,” Percival wrote. “His claimed reason for fearing Mali was that he is ‘gay,’ just in case you’re wondering how bad the immigration fraud problem is.”

Separately, Percival posted clips from the interview that did not appear in the broadcast.

In one exchange, a correspondent cited figures showing that less than 14 percent of recent ICE detainees had violent criminal records. Percival responded that the label is misleading because many serious offenses — possession of child sexual abuse material and trafficking in heroin, among others — are not classified as violent crimes.

Embedded tweet continues:

… many horrible, HORRIBLE crimes that people do not classify as violent crimes. Let me give you some examples. Child pornography […] watching it is not considered a violent crime. Trafficking in heroin, not considered a violent crime. So anytime someone feeds you a violent crime stat like that, they are absolutely COOKING THE BOOKS to erase the significant criminality and public safety threat.”

Percival argued that any crime committed by someone present illegally is preventable and that earlier administrations had not removed such individuals at vaguely comparable rates.

I reiterate — ALL illegal aliens are bad actors. Breaching a nation’s sovereign borders is often a gateway to other crimes.

As Glenn wrote in the New York Post in September 2008, after Charlie Gibson’s interview with Sarah Palin was edited like a ransom note, always bring your own camera to an interview.

“FUNDING REPUBLICANS” IS JUST ANOTHER OF HIS MANY NON-OFFENSE OFFENSES:

DECOUPLING: EU Climbs Escalation Ladder With Beijing, Plans Wider Curbs On Chinese Imports.

Bloomberg reports that the EU is preparing restrictions on imports of chemicals, furniture, and machinery from China, expanding efforts to shield domestic manufacturers and narrow the massive trade deficit with China, which stands at $404 billion. The report cited people familiar with the matter.

“Our industries have called for action and we have heard them, and we will respond, including some more safeguards,” Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said earlier this month.

The proposed safeguards build on earlier news that Brussels aims to implement the Chinese hybrid vehicle cap in December to shield the EU’s crumbling automotive industry, as cheap overseas cars gain market share and leave domestic companies like VW laying off tens of thousands of workers.

Brussels has finally chosen to move up the “escalation ladder” with China, risking retaliation from Beijing as its own political power appears to be eroding across Europe after decades of backfiring globalist policies that have left the continent with a hollowed-out industrial base.

Perhaps too little, too late — and doesn’t address fundamental issues like German and British net zero policies hollowing out domestic production.

THERE’S A LAME DUCK COMING: It’s the last legislative session of the 119th Congress, commencing at some point soon after next Tuesday’s Midterm Elections. As I report today in The Washington Stand, the Senate and House have a bunch of unfinished business to complete and, with 71 Members leaving Congress at the end of the 119th, they could exercise some immense leverage if they were of a mind to do so.

How so? Well, the debt ceiling soon must be either raised higher or suspended altogether if the senators and representatives want to continue spending the nation toward bankruptcy by never balancing the budget and constantly adding to the National Debt.

But what might happen if those 71 departing Members of the 119th — 44 GOPers and 27 Dems —  tell the rest of them “no more deficit spending, you’ve got to balance the budget and start making serious progress on eliminating that nearly $41 Trillion National Debt?” They could be the most powerful voting block ever in the modern history of Congress.

VOTE AS THOUGH YOUR LIFE, LIBERTY, AND PROPERTY DEPEND UPON IT: Another Election, Same Billionaire Funding the Same Anti-Gun Rights Agenda. “According to Moms Demand Action, part of Bloomberg’s Everytown conglomerate, the latest $10 million dollar ad campaign for U.S. House candidates exclusively funds the campaigns of former volunteers for Moms Demand Action. The Democrat candidates include: JoAnna Mendoza of Arizona, Pia Dandiya of Florida, Christina Bohannan, Sarah Trone Garriott and Lindsay James of Iowa, Christina Hines and Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet of Michigan, and Paige Cognetti of Pennsylvania.”

RIP: Susan Saint James, Emmy-winning actress of McMillan and Wife and Kate and Allie, dies at 80.

People magazine, citing a representative for the actor, said Saint James died Monday after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

“She never met a stranger,” her family said in a statement to People. “Every person she met became the most important person in the room at that moment, from a fellow board member to the clerk at the shoe store, who usually walked away knowing her entire life story.”

Born Susan Jane Miller on Aug. 14, 1946, in Los Angeles, she was raised in the northern Illinois city of Rockford, where her father had transferred for work. She began modeling as a teenager in Paris.

At 20, she moved back to Los Angeles and landed a seven-year contract with Universal Studios. She made her television debut in the 1966 movie “Fame is the Name of the Game” with Tony Franciosa.

She got another break when it became a series called “The Name of the Game” in 1968, with rotating lead characters played by Franciosa, Gene Barry and Robert Stack. Saint James provided the show continuity in her role as Peggy Maxwell, a research assistant who worked for all three men. She won an Emmy Award for the part in 1969.

Before “The Name of the Game,” Saint James had a recurring role in the crime-caper series “It Takes a Thief” starring Robert Wagner. Her other early TV credits included “Ironside,” “McCloud” and “Alias Smith and Jones.”

Saint James had a supporting role in the 1968 movie “Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows” starring Rosalind Russell and Stella Stevens.

Sharon Gles’s bio lists her as being signed to an exclusive contract at Universal in 1972 where she “remained under contract for the next decade, until the studio ended all talent contracts in 1981. Gless was held until 1982, earmarking her as the last contract player in the history of Hollywood.” Saint James was also one of the last Hollywood actors to be under an exclusive contract, explaining her appearances in numerous Universal productions throughout the late 1960s and ‘70s, before marrying NBC executive (and Saturday Night Live co-creator) Dick Ebersol in 1981, and going on to co-star with SNL alum Jane Curtin in Kate & Allie in the 1980s.
