CIVIL RIGHTS UPDATE: California Sheriff Backs Down, Ends County’s Ban on 1911s, Red Dots, and Pistol Lights.
The Second Amendment Foundation has reached a settlement agreement with the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office over policies that previously prohibited permit holders from carrying handguns equipped with red dot sights or flashlights and an outright ban on the carry of single action only 1911- and 2011-style pistols.
Under the agreement, the Sheriff’s Office will withdraw its prohibitions on red-dot sights, weapon-mounted lights and semiautomatic single-action 1911 and 2011 platform pistols carried under a county CCW license. The office will update its concealed-carry website within 10 days to reflect the change. SAF was joined in SAF v. Contra Costa County by private citizens Andrew Moore and James Treuel who were represented by John W. Dillon of the Dillon Law Group.
“A sheriff does not get to invent a shorter list of approved handguns and accessories than the Constitution allows,” said SAF Director of Legal Research and Education and attorney of record in the case Kostas Moros.
So flagrant that Sheriff David O. Livingston chose to settle rather than take it to court.
DISPATCHES FROM THE DAILY FAIL: “Choosin’ Texas” singer Ella Langley faces backlash after old hunting photos resurface: ‘She’s disgusting.’
Ella Langley has come under fire after her old hunting photos resurfaced online.
The Choosin’ Texas hitmaker, 27, has posted a series of images to her own social media accounts of her various kills over the years.
One, shared to Facebook in November 2018, showed Langley beaming toward the camera as she and her younger sister supported the head of a dead deer.
Another upload, dated February 2020, saw her posing with a fresh kill on the back of an ATV, posted alongside a caption that read: ‘Not my biggest buck, but a wild story we’ll remember forever.’
Several others were taken in her home state of Alabama.
One Instagram snapshot from December 2021 saw her decked out in a camo jacket and cap as she gripped the antlers of her fresh kill.
It was captioned: ‘Finally put one down this afternoon.’
But amid her recent chart-topping success, it appears that animal rights activists and pop music fans unaccustomed to country life have piled in to hit out at her former hobby.
Gosh, I may be out on a limb on this one, but somehow I don’t think either country music fans in general or most Texans specifically will lose much sleep over someone taking pride in their hunting skills.

VITAMIN D UPDATE: Easy-to-miss signs of vitamin D deficiency, according to health experts.
CHANGE: Once touted as a clean-energy blueprint, Nevada solar plant sells for cents on the dollar.
A twice-bankrupt solar power plant in Nevada that was backed by the federal government has been sold for a fraction of what it cost to build.
Sons of Liberty Construction purchased the Crescent Dunes solar energy plant near Tonopah for $7 million. The sale closed this summer, federal court records show.
Overall, it cost more than $1 billion to build the massive energy complex and place in service, according to a court filing from a project lender.
Crescent Dunes, located some 230 miles northwest of Las Vegas, landed a $737 million loan guarantee from the Obama administration. It was touted as a first-of-its-kind facility that, by heating molten salt and generating high-pressure steam, would produce enough electricity for tens of thousands of homes in Nevada.
All told, it was seen as a blueprint for helping countries “around the world use clean, affordable electricity,” the U.S. Department of Energy once declared.
I for one am totally shocked that a regime that thought nothing of bragging that “Under my plan, energy costs will necessarily skyrocket,” and “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,” could fund a debacle this bad.
ANALYSIS: TRUE. Affordability? Phooey! It’s Impeachment the Democrats Crave.

THE NEW SPACE RACE: NASA taps DoE to help it build nuclear space reactors.
“We are entering the ‘Nuclear NASA-era,’” Isaacman said at a signing ceremony where he and Energy Secretary Chris Wright signed a joint memorandum of understanding. The MOU, the full text of which doesn’t appear to have been published, establishes a framework for collaboration on space nuclear technology. Per NASA, the agreement “unites both agencies” in pursuing its objectives, with work to include research and fuel production, testing, launch integration, and operations.
“Nuclear power will allow us to go farther, operate longer, and field more capable spacecraft and instruments than ever before,” Isaacman added. “The work we’re doing today is laying the foundation for the fission-poweuing NASA’s objred spacecraft of tomorrow and opening an entirely new frontier for exploration and discovery.”

HEGSETH: Fort Hood Terrorist’s Execution Will Be Public.
Not only is Secretary of War Pete Hegseth planning to have terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan executed at the very base where he committed mass murder, but the public will be able to watch the execution. And hell yes, I’m excited.
Executing Hasan is justice, even if it is coming more than a decade after the massacre. But filming the execution and having it occur on the spot at Fort Hood where Hasan slaughtered 13 innocent people in the name of Allah is poetic justice. Unlike so many military bureaucrats before him, Hegseth knows how to punish an Islamic jihadi and ensure that the whole world sees America is no longer run by namby-pamby, pro-Islamist, woke cowards. There have been multiple Islamic terrorist attacks in America this year, and it is important for our military to send a strong message.
Hegseth told Human Events’ Jack Posobiec that deciding the circumstances of the execution was a “no brainer. Execution by firing squad. An Army major betrays his country, [he’s a] radical Islamist, kills a bunch of Americans at Fort Hood. Of course, we’re gonna do [the execution] at Fort Hood. Gonna do it on a Thursday, we’re gonna do it at 1:00, which is when he did it, and it’s gonna be soldiers with rifles executing the firing squad.”
Naturally, because Orange Man Bad, this is surprisingly controversial, even in the age of “The Assassination Fan Base:”
Easily 60% of the people who object to "the killing…even of an enemy…still a HUMAN – much less on video!!!" support Hamas and backed 7 October.
