CYBERSECURITY: How one hacker used AI agents and a few thousand dollars to break into scores of sites.

Over the past couple of weeks, a cybersecurity researcher watched as a Chinese-speaking hacker broke into websites belonging to more than 100 companies, including farm equipment maker Deere, home appliance ​company SharkNinja, and engine manufacturer Cummins.

Yet the hacker did almost none of the work.

The cybercriminal instead outsourced the hacking spree almost entirely to artificial intelligence, tasking AI agents ‌with spending hours autonomously probing and breaking into targeted sites, according to Snorre Fagerland, principal threat researcher at the cybersecurity company NorForge.

In a report provided to Reuters ahead of publication on Monday, opens new tab, Fagerland said the hacker was one of several he discovered while scanning the web for inadvertently exposed instances of Cairn, an open-source AI problem-solving platform popular with hackers.

Read the whole thing, but this stands out:

The useful idiot is not exactly stupid. This is the first and most important thing to understand. Stupidity would be a defense. The more precise diagnosis is what we in Poland call pół-inteligent – the half-wit. Not the bottom of the intelligence distribution, which is too obviously lost to be useful. Not the genuine top, which tends to develop the inconvenient habit of following arguments wherever they actually lead. The sweet spot: smart enough to absorb a complex ideological framework, to deploy its vocabulary with confidence, to feel the social rewards of appearing sophisticated – but not quite sharp enough to interrogate the framework itself. Enough horsepower to run the program. Not enough to question who wrote it. The pół-inteligent is the useful idiot’s technical specification. And the specimen is typically convinced – this is crucial – that it is among the most independent thinkers in the room. The delusion is important. Remove it and the whole architecture collapses.

The problem, of course, is that removing the delusion is like extracting an impacted molar from someone whose jaw is wired shut.

JOANE JACOBS: The unabashed patriotism at the National World War II Museum is startling — and refreshing.

We also visited the National World War II Museum, which opened in 2000 as the D-Day Museum and kept on growing. There are lots of testimonies from men and women who served in the military or on the home front, lots of artifacts, fancy visuals and a “4-D” movie, focused on the American experience in World War II.

I was startled by the old-fashioned patriotism: The museum tells the stories of the “good war” in which we were the good guys and the Axis powers were the bad guys. There is no soul searching, no “interrogating” the narrative. Japanese-Americans were interned — but volunteered to fight and became heroes. Blacks were treated as second-class citizens — but worked in defense plants and served bravely. Bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed a lot of civilians — but it ended the war without a bloody invasion. And so on.

Most Americans probably don’t know the role Andrew Jackson Higgins and New Orleans played in D-Day and the rest of the European theater, which is a real shame.

KURT SCHLICHTER: Woke 2 Is Here, and It’s Failing Hilariously. “Now there’s a reason that woke people are so often fat, ugly, and stupid. It’s because they’re the losers. Woke is the tool of the losers; they’ve got nothing else. Its efficacy exists only because of the grace of the winners, and if we stop giving them that grace, it stops being effective. And we give that grace in large part because we’ve been convinced, falsely, that those claiming oppression have some sort of moral edge over the rest of us. . . . We’re still at the endless nagging phase. Examples are all around us, including the Cornell 7 case, where they are demanding that the men who, as the evidence shows, simply acknowledged and affirmed the frisky young lady’s erotic empowerment are being held up as evidence of how the patriarchy is out of control.”

There’s no better argument for patriarchy than woke feminism.

ABE GREENWALD: The Riot Coalition.

The term “omnicause” entered the lexicon only in 2023. But the blueprint for omnicause rioting was already operative 15 years ago. In fact, it was already supplanting realistic plans for left-leaning governance. As I wrote: “Without a viable leftist blueprint for actual political progress, you riot incoherently, collaboratively, and opportunistically. The abandoned orphans of the left are taking Britain by storm.”

It’s been a long storm, growing and intensifying all these years. Each new eruption contributes something to it, whether an additional grievance or a destructive tactic. And the new elements live on. In the years since 2011, the storm has been fueled by Black Lives Matter, Antifa, gender radicalism, anti-Israel mania, and jihad fandom. After the George Floyd summer, all rioters would forever wear masks. With the campus tentifada, they added keffiyehs, terrorist flags, and genocidal rhetoric. The riots in France will add something new, too. Perhaps American high schoolers will soon take to the streets pretending to demand better education, though I somehow doubt it.

Whether this will stop, or at least ebb, depends foremost on the education of Western leaders. Will they learn the “real cause” of all this violence and instability? They’ve had a decade and a half to figure it out. And the answer is this: Leftist governance has failed their countries while radical ideas have transformed their peoples into mobs.

Well, of course it failed –leftist governance is designed to fail:

This is why there was such enormous flip out over Trump renovating the reflecting pool or Spencer Pratt’s campaign.

Once people realize that things can be improved a lot of nonprofits and public union/money dries up. There is a reason why cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, and now Denver all look the same because they are all run by the same people running the exact same scam.

SARAH HOYT’S SHOCKED FACE IS HEAVILY SEDATED: Don’t Look Now, But Yet Another Chicago ‘Violence Interrupter’ Has Committed Violent Felonies.

Angalwon Gilmore, 28, started his day at a Chicago CRED (Create Real Economic Destiny) office flashing gang signs at the anti-violence center’s own security cameras. Hours later he used a Lyft account registered as “Angawon CRED” to get a ride from that same building.

Did he misspell his own name? You make the call. Anyway, he climbed into the back of a 33-year-old woman’s 2013 Acura wearing a COVID mask…and then tried to carjack her. Thank heavens Lyft has a policy against their drivers carrying the proper tools for armed self-defense, right?

Angalwon yelled at her to change direction. When she did what he wanted to keep the situation from turning worse, he attacked from behind in the 6400 block of South Rhodes, wrapping his arm around her neck and trying to pull her out of the driver’s seat into the back. The struggle went on for several minutes. She fought hard, jamming a leg under the dash and steering wheel so he couldn’t pull her free. He eventually bailed with her keys. She called 911.

Gilmore is now detained on attempted vehicular hijacking, robbery, and aggravated battery. Phone data, Lyft records, the driver’s photo-lineup identification, and a police report that lists Chicago CRED as his employer tied him to the attack.

This is not some one-off fluke by a single “violence interruptor” gone bad.

I’d forgotten about the Violence Interruptor scheme, but what I do remember is stories like this one.
