MORNING IN AMERICA: U.S. Adds a Whopping 162,000 Jobs in a Bright Spot for the Economy.

The U.S. added 162,000 jobs in August, the Labor Department reported Friday, a much-stronger-than-expected result that suggested the labor market shook off its early-summer doldrums.

The numbers

The unemployment rate stayed steady at 4.1%. That leaves it at a historically low level that indicates the labor market remains generally healthy.

Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal had forecast the report would show the economy gained just 53,000 jobs. The unemployment rate was in line with their expectations.

What this means for jobs

The jump in jobs came in part from rebounds in restaurant and in local-education employment that many economists viewed as one-off factors. But the U.S. has added an average of 80,000 jobs a month so far this year, which compares with monthly growth of 10,000 jobs in 2025.

“We don’t have a problem in the labor market,” said Joe Brusuelas, chief economist at RSM.

Hiring had weakened considerably in June and July, and so the August job gains helped dispel concerns that the labor market had re-entered a period of cooling.

“Unexpectedly,” NPR adds: The U.S. unexpectedly added 162,000 jobs last month.

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO MICHIGAN DEMOCRATS? ‘F**k you..hurry up and die’: Swing-seat Democratic House candidate’s deleted tweets show far-left record.

William Lawrence, the Democratic nominee in one of the country’s most competitive House races in Michigan, deleted hundreds of old social media posts in which he embraced police and prison abolition, called for nationalizing fossil-fuel companies to end their production, attacked moderate Democrats and argued for a “fundamental overhaul” of the Constitution.

Other deleted posts show Lawrence writing “f**k” the nuclear-family home and calling it an “isolating, individualistic, violent way of organizing society,” envisioning “a world of free and open migration,” and calling to “Abolish the Senate.”

Lawrence even wrote a song inspired by moderate Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin’s resistance to Democrats’ climate agenda: “Our generation says f**k you for everything,” Lawrence wrote in lyrics he posted in December 2021. “Hurry up and die so that we can get started.”

Now of course he claims he was just “thinking out loud” on the internet.

THE 21st CENTURY IS NOT TURNING OUT AS I HAD HOPED: Three hiking novices asked Gemini how to climb 14,179-ft Mount Shasta.

Three hikers were rescued on Monday after they became stranded on Mount Shasta near Clear Creek Route.

The hikers told the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office they relied heavily on Google’s Gemini, an artificial intelligence assistant, for information about the route and what to pack, which the sheriff’s office called a “critical misstep.”

“They were advised by Gemini to bring far less food and water than their group required, especially when their planned 8 hour ascent became a multi-day ordeal,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Long story short: last month, after Trump announced a 50% tariff on Canadian goods amid stalled trade talks, our neighbors to the north responded with retaliatory tariffs on ~$20 billion worth of American products, including steel.

Threads isn’t the only platform where this enlightened discourse is now happening, though. On the subreddit r/anticapitalism, one Reddit user gave perhaps the most sensible, sober, definitely-not-wellness-call-inducing response yet in reaction to Google Maps updating the name of a body of water:

A part of me wants to see these people get what they are implicitly hoping for: you guys want tech running the government now? Fine — but please keep that energy when ICE has the operational efficiency of Amazon, and illegal immigrants are sent back to Honduras via same-day shipping.

But instead, I choose to cherish the fact that I live in a country whose government’s powers are derived from the consent of the governed. (Even if the governed also includes Threads users.)

This is what makes America great.

So great, in fact… that we should consider naming a lake after it.

So Trump is a Nazi, the employees of Google are Nazis, and yet you feel perfectly safe going on social media to declare your Gnostic ability to see what the “sheeple” out there just can’t ascertain.

Although to be fair, given that it’s Google, we already know they’ll be the most multicultural gender diverse Nazis on the planet: Google’s AI Debacle. Why is Google creating pro-Nazi and pro-Confederate propaganda?

HOLLYWOOD, INTERRUPTED: Trans Actor Complains No Job Offers Are Coming Despite Recent Appearance in Blockbuster The Odyssey (Video).

Trans actor Elliott Page (born Ellen Page) is complaining that the phone is not ringing with job offers despite the fact that Page had a significant role in this summer’s ‘The Odyssey’ which was a massive financial success.

One of Page’s problems is a trap that many actors fall into. When it comes to acting, the less the audience knows about you, the better. Once people associate you with a specific thing, that is all they will see. Filmmakers, directors, producers, and casting agents know this, but for some reason, many actors don’t.

Page’s fixation on identity is going to be an issue because she made it one.
